The independent living group spent a couple of weeks recycling and fixing our bikes in order to prepare for a bike ride at Loch Leven. We visited the Bike station in Perth which is a charity funded organisation that runs different workshops to help or support you to fix your bike. We popped along to get some advice and support but with the intention of being able to do it ourselves. This was a very knowledgeable session and we all learnt some great tips on how to maintain your bike over time. After some TLC, oil and air the bikes were up and running and most importantly safe to ride.
The following week we loaded all the bikes and helmets onto the trailer and headed to the Burleigh Sands car park at Loch Leven. We cycled for a good hour before turning back to return, that was when disaster struck, we had a puncture. That bike had to then be pushed back but it taught us all a lesson, to carry a puncture repair kit with us. On our travels, we saw many different birds, swans and a group of workers that were hand baling a small field with a hand held bailer, which was quite interesting. Everyone really enjoyed this activity and it boosted confidence levels to go out on a bike which will help some to take up cycli8ng as a hobby or just for fun.
