Having attended the previous day the group were quite relaxed and were visibly excited about the activities ahead of them on Day 2. The activity leaders divided everyone into 4 groups then explained the teams were to build a raft which could be taken on the water. The instructor explained each team would be given the same items – 4 plastic barrels 2 planks and as much rope as they wanted. Groups were given pens and paper to draft and discuss a raft design. The activity leaders went round each group lending encouragement and demonstrated a good way to tie the ropes. Within an hour each team had a sea worthy raft. While building there were some excellent demonstrations of team work, to tie the ropes in the strong method demonstrated by the activity leader. This type of activity is ideal for building trust, confidence and decisiveness, each team member was relying on the others to do their best. The consequence of not putting the effort into the team was the real possibility of ending up in the water (of which a couple of teams did!). Archery saw everyone have a shot at hitting the bulls-eye and scoring the most, helping to improve motor skills and hand/eye coordination. And zorbing…..well if you have never tried it you must do so! What a laugh! A bit like a huge hamster ball the aim is to stay upright and run on the inside of the ball to ‘walk’ on water. Amazing fun had by those who took part in this additional activity! The smiles said it all!
