Our student James delivered a Music & Percussion workshop with the LI group. The group explored “tempo, dynamics, rhythms and pitch” and how these are used in different music genres. As a group, they discussed how these varying techniques made them feel and what it reminded them of? A number of “call and response” games were also played which involved describing an action of a ball being thrown, rolled and bounced and finding sounds from the drums that could reflect that adjective. Some of the games were more difficult than others as it involved keeping rhythms, and being alert to changes. Once the session had formally finished, a few of the group had a spontaneous jam session. This involved everyone playing at once, but playing different rhythms that complimented the sound. Over a lunch of tasty toasties the group discussed how much they had enjoyed the session and for some of the group members how it reignited their passion for music.
